Providing the basic human right of adequate health care

The Roy A. Kite Jr Foundation will extend support to major humanitarian medical projects currently being undertaken in very remote Himalayan regions of Nepal and India.

Funds offered in condolence and respect for Roy’s life will make fundamental dental, medical, optical and gynecological health care possible for literally thousands of people living in the remotest regions of the Himalayas.  Members of Roy’s family personally oversee these projects in Nepal and the north India region of Ladakh, so cost effectiveness and authenticity is assured.

Teams of skilled international dentists are mobilized and travel to remote regions in the himalayas to treat thousands of patients suffering from epidemic dental care problems.  All treatments, supplies and hygiene training are provided free of charge.

The Himalayan Vision Project is also bringing skilled ophthalmic surgeons to remote regions of Ladakh where they are performing many sight restoring cataract operations.  In more complex cases, we are sending patients to the Axis Eye Hospital in Hyderabad, India where they received their travel expenses and surgeries free of charge. In addition, hundreds of local people are measured for prescription eyeglasses by optometrists and given custom made eyeglasses free of charge.

The Himalayan Woman’s Health Project is making ground breaking efforts in the long neglected field of women’s health in the Himalayas. Wide spread screening for cervical cancer, public education and training of local mid-wives and nurses is making inroads into the tragedy of neglect, procrastination and cultural resistance to women’s health issues that cause countless unnecessary deaths among the women of the Himalayas.

Please watch a compelling 10 minute documentary of the July 2010 medical expedition to the remote Nubra Valley in Ladakh – the likes of  which the Roy Kite Jr Foundation will help to make possible for more people in even more inaccessible locations of the Himalayas.
